I'm guessing this isn't the first time you've heard this I have a new site (less than one month old) and it was actually ranking quite well in Google. I was up to #2 for a 4 word keyword and on page 4 and climbing for a high traffic 2 word keyword. Today I noticed in my Webmaster account that my # of backlinks had gone from 4 (which were all from digg) to 75. I thought that was a good thing until I noticed that all my keyword rankings have completely disappeared. Does this mean that Google doesn't like the quality of my backlinks or could this be a temporary glitch? The backlinks I have are mostly from this forum, yahoo answers, ezinearticles, digg, a couple of cake decorating forums and facebook. My site is still indexed but I'm wondering now if my initial good SERPs were just the result of being a new site. I thought the links I was generating were pretty decent quality so I'm now confused. Any chance I'll wake up tomorrow and find my rankings are back? The site in question is in my signature. Thanks!
you are not alone. Many guys effected. But i got good result. anyway make good links and promote you domain.
New sites hit the G SERPs running. There's some sort of initial 'new-site' boost that seems to last anywhere from a couple of weeks to about a month. This wears off and you drop a hundred results or so, which is normal. Nothing you can do about it but work on your content and link build, link build, link build! All inbound links are good. Don't turn down a link. You will not be penalized for receiving inbound links from low quality sites, though the gains may be only minor - if any at all. And, just another FYI, Yahoo Answers does not actually count as a backlink to Google as they use the nofollow attribute in sources & answers. Nevertheless, it's still a good target traffic source!
Same thing happened to me and I really got scared when I search the keyword. Don't stop to build links and after a month or so, your site will be back on your top searched keyword.
All of us here are experience the same problem you shared to us, it's a common problem. You should work on your promotions and link building.
This is what I have to add. A new website undergoes an effect called 'Google sandbox effect'. Happens with all new websites with only a few exceptions. Some people (me included) like to refer it as an 'aging filter'. You have nothing to worry about. Just continue with you SEO efforts and things would be fine after some time. However, it would be very difficult to comment on the exact time frame.
Hi guys, same thing happened to me for my keywords. I've noticed a trend in the Google rankings going down and then up and so on. At the 1 sept our keywords where dropped from the serps. but after this weekend I did a rank check on my sites. Some of the keywords are back ranking even better then before. This is amazing! We are at no 2 on 1st page of google for one of our main keywords.
you don't have to worry. If you just keep on generating those relevant back links you will get good results on your SERP's.
