Hi although I have recently been making a very small amount of money through my newest long term website I always find that I am ultimately failing because I can't pick good keywords. I either rank well for keywords that get little to non existent traffic or spend months beating a dead horse keyword that is far too competitive which also gets little to non existent traffic due to no rankings. So now I am aiming to wise up and get this sorted once and for all. There are people that are making thousands a month by simply picking good keywords and ranking for them. Words that get a few hundred visits a month all add up. Thats how spencer from niche pursuits makes well over $10k a month. So I have decided to do my own little keyword experiment to see if I can make 10k new visits in the next two months. Pat Flynn also did something similar with his security guard training site. Currently my site only gets 3k visits PM and is based on product reviews and information on the things I am interested in. I was basically picking products at random within a niche and reviewing them. I noticed I could only rank for the ones that weren't popular since no one else was reviewing them and thus got little traffic. However there is one product that gets me 1000 visits a month which is my biggest by far. This is because no one else is reviewing it! It was a fluke since I was just aimlessly reviewing what ever I could find. It got to the front of Google within 2 weeks with practically no SEO so these are the sort of keywords I am going to look for -product and info based. I want ten a month. The criteria is: keyword should get around 1000 searches, or with lots of long tail variations, there shouldn't be any real obvious keyword targeting on the first page, there should be no monster authority pages on the front of Google and it should not be a product name i.e. all shopping pages. I will document all of this to see if I can notice a pattern and get better at picking keywords. Does anyone have any tips or want to attempt the challenge also?
