keyword position tracking tool??

I am new to this website SEO stuff so bear with me. I have done the Keyword Suggestion Tool and have my results. With these results why do I place them in the Keyword position Tracking Tool?? Is this to track the popularity of each of the resulting keywords on my site or the competition ?? Where would I get a simple explanation? Thanks,Artie

Id like to use this tool but need a Google API Key. I have had a Google account for ages but no idea if I have an API key and their interface doesnt tell you anything. All it sais is that od 7 Dec 06 they are not giving them out anymore. WHAT THE!!??
