I've picked my product and I'm ready to buy a domain to advertise said product. Using the Google keyword tool I've found a good keyword and matching domain but according to google the keyword only gets 40k hits per month. Is that enough? Should I search for something better? Also the domain I found is a .net does that affect anything? thanks for helping redli0n82
40k should be fine to be honest if you could get that much traffic to your site every month you would be making a nice amount. Preferable I stick to .com but I can see .net making that much of a difference
I think from a marketing perspective, a .com is better. It just appears more professional right off the bat than a .net I find that .com domains propagate faster too. I have both types of domains, and I have made more sales on .com landing pages than .nets. I have only made like 6 total sales though, so those 'results' shouldn't be taken seriously.
well I took the plunge and bought the domain. I figure just grabbing a portion of 40k would be good for my first clickbank website. Now to design it and shoot for #1 on google. Anyone know what the record is from creation to #1? I imagine at least a month or two. I hope this site makes money by the end of the year 5 months should be long enough. I've never used wordpress and I'm going to try it out for this website. Thanks for your tips.
40k search volume? Then its probably a really competitive keyword. Even I don't target keywords with 40k search volume. That's going to be hard to get ranked for. Do allintitle:"keyword" to see how many pages are optimized for that keyword. Of course, replace keyword with the keyword you're target. Starting out, you should focus on targeting keywords with less than 100 pages optimized for it. Right now I can get ranked within the first three pages of google for keywords with 1000 pages optimized for it.
so I made a mistake? there are 10,100 optimized for my keyword. So that is bad? How popular should the keyword be? You are saying less than 40k per month but what should it be between?
That's a very good ratio actually...people normally target keywords with 50k or less but this is pretty good for something getting 40k hits a month. Of course low competition can be a bad thing, it could mean people tried monetizing the niche and didn't find it successful so some more research might be a good thing.
The more hits on a specific keyword, the more competion for that keyword. You'll probably be waaay back and almost nobody will find you that way. I find "long tail" keywords more useful in searches. For that, you need good content and lots of it. When people search more obscure keywords, or groups of keywords, then you'll be more likely to get found. They add up.
