    Hey Danniboi.

It all depends on the niche, search volume and competition and your SEO campaign.

IF you own Coca cola, then you probably have the money to try and go for a high level campaign on a short tail keyword with lots of competition.

IF however you are new to internet marketing, and have yet to do your first backlink. Picking a longtail with low competition but a good search volume is the way to go.

You might have a brand new niche that no one has discovered if so there could be short to long tail keywords with low competition and high search volume.

Maybe you should be asking yourself, which keywords have the highest search volume but the lowest competition and are relevant to my niche.

    Hope it helps

Longtail I'd say because it will bring potential customers right to what they want. Your niche will be an inch wide and a mile deep. Perfect!

Long tail keywords I'd say because it's easier to seo and target audience.

While I agree that longtail keywords draw a more specific group, I think that it also looses out on a wider group. I personally recommend to our clients a mixture of longtail and mediumtail keywords when gearing a site to SEO.
