    Hello Guys and Gals,
I have been reading and taking notes from this forum for a few months now, and thank you all for the great advice. I already have a couple sites online, and am working on improving their traffic. I'm still confused on locating a niche keyword. I have been doing research on a certain keyword. It is the name of a rock group that I thought no one had any interest in anymore, but seems to be searched quite a bit. Here are the stats I found for the keyword:

    Wordtracker searches: 6,000/day
    Overture searches: 4,000/day
    Overture searches for April: 120,000
Max bid for the keyword on Overture: .10
    Yahoo pages found: 3,000,000
    Google pages found: 2,000,000

I have not fully researched the top paying keywords yet. The #1 listed site is named after this band and redirects to Warner Bros to purchase their merchandise. The top ranked pages for this band are mostly sony, mp3, amazon, and ebay links. There is nothing that really stands out.

In your opinion, would it be worthwhile to build a site around this band and use a combination of affiliates and Adsense, or are the numbers not good enough? If so, what affiliates would you suggest using?

Competition seems low, and searches high. Seems to me (at a quick glance) you've done your homework well.

However, without much competition and no real sites out there, plus the Overture bid tool indicating 10ct only you;ll probably find that AdSense won't be paying an awful lot. But since you're in a nice position of claiming the majority of the available searches it could work out working the numbers.

Affiliates is probably the way to go though if there are decent programs out there for this nice.

Seems like worth a shot to me.

Try to do an allintitle and all allinanchor searches at google, from my experience they are more acurate for competition.
a 6,000,000 page result can be non competitive, few people optimizing for it
a 100,000 page results can be competitive, a lot of people optimizing for it

    allintitle results are 23,000
    allinanchor results are 44,000

And I have no idea if these numbers are good or bad

They look good also what you can do is check the top results of each of the 3 google searches you mentioned, check their incomming links and the onpage optimization.

the best way to test a market is create a small website about the subject, promote it a bit and see how well in ranks on msn then yahoo.

You mean a small 5-10 page site? Should I try a PPC campaign with Overture? Also, can anyone recommend affiliates for selling cd's and mp3's for music groups? I've read good and bad things about Amazon. Are there better affiliates?

This is what I did, other people here might be able to help more

Check the video game rental website on my signature.
I found video game rental was a semi-competitive keyword for my resources.
I found online video game rental and internet video game rental as highly serached (by the tools) and not competitive.

Created a small website and promoted.
Currently I rank very high (#1 and #4 ) for both of those keywords in msn and have been that high on yahoo (not currently). I found that the keyword tool is wrong on those keywords (ie less visitors than expected).
