The reason the question came up is our domain name doesn't have our primary keyword in it. Unfortunately, I work for someone that's "all or nothing." So, a test would be to put everything into the new folder, which would require a bit of work and time. Then, should the results prove inconclusive (or worse yet - worse serps), everything would have to be put back to where it was before. All of which causes disruptions in serps (without 301's - which is more work).
