Keyword in URL -good for SEO?

    Im looking at building a site that is a plural of the key word, however it isn't gramatically correct, for example:

    keyword = signage, uses signages

    Would this help in the SEO fight?

    Google seems to put a lot of weight into the keyword being the URL search term.
    I've seen sites ranking in top 5 positions on competitive keywords for 'keyword inURL' and those sites having either PR0 or PR1 and literally no backlinks.

    this is not always the case. Here is an example:

    The URL http://www.pacmanflash.com does not even appear in the first 100 listings with the keyword Pacman Flash. Can anyone explain that?

    You can also use a hyphen to seperate keywords.

    I think it used to be a lot more important than it is now - having said that it is a good idea to write the keywords into any sub page urls
