If you dont get the keyword domain that you are looking for..

why not just load the index.php or whatever from a subfolder?

such as instead of www. thisismywebsite.com load the homepage from www. thisismywebsite.com/keywords_go_here ?

is there a problem with that?

Try to keep keywords in your domain. You will get little advantage in seo. But its not mandatory that your website will not come if your domain contains no any important keyword.

Keywords in the domain name can result in almost a miracle. Keywords in filename carries much less value.

This is not a good way to redirect your homepage to another directory OR web page. I don't think it will help you.. Better is to have keywords in domain name itself.

Will you also get an SEO boost from having the keyword in the subdomain? And if so, is there a limit to the size of the subdomain before you start getting penalized?

    a.k.a ht tp://keyword1_keyword2_keyword3....mysite.com/

The alternative you mentioned - That is the way people have been putting keywords in the url for so long, but I do agree that when you have keyword in the domain it usually ranks higher in the search results.

There is no doubt that keyword rich domain names perform much better in the search engine rankings than the domains without keywords in the domain. Unfortunately the difference can’t be seen that much as each site has its own way of doing seo, and to measure that this is true the solution is one.
