Keyword in domain. Important?

Newbie here. I'm trying to launch a website targeting ultra niche with a long tail keyword.

How important is it to have all your keyword in your domain?

Let's say my keyword is "Business web design". SEO wise, would it help to have all the keywords in the domain?

For example, www.businesswebdesign.com. If it's taken, would a domain like "www.business-webdesign.com suffice?

Or is it a bad idea to use hyphen in your domain name?

Also, what if I use an unrelated word with my keyword as my domain name. Like say, "www.coolwebdesign.com. Would it be counter productive SEO wise?

Lastly, if .com and .net are both available for the domain in question. Should I buy both of them and have the .net parked to be redirected to my .com?

I know I've asked a lot questions in one post, but I thought I might as well instead of posting several new threads. Thanks for reading.

    Welcome here.

Your Keyword in you domain is like Goal, especially if you have some quality backlinks to help as well. Google really considers it nowadays.

Generally i don't like using a hyphen for my primary domain names. I only use hyphens for extended pages. That is /a-page-name.html. People have different views on this though.

If you have the means, take the dot net and the dot com, so you know you have it all. No one can take it from you, but it dose not matter so much. The dot com is still unbeatable.

Thank you much for a nice welcome waxman.
Following up on my question, if I were to buy the domain name "www.coolwebdesign.com" for the keyword "business web design". You've already told me it's better to have all your keywords in your domain name. But since many domain names are already taken, would "www.coolwebdesign.com" be a good alternative to "www.businesswebdesign.com? So basically chopping up your keyword and using just a portion them.

I think it is ideal to have it in the domain, but not crucial. If you are only targeting just those words, then yeah make sure it is in your domain. Otherwise there are many more factors that contribute and that can overcome not having it in there.

Hi tikijj : Domain with keywords rich is your first arsenal to winning at SEO competition. And sure, the dashes will give you bad effect for your SEO, its still better than without dashes but no keywords at your domain. Always try to get Com extension, because its general to remember and easy to rank at search engine.

Ok, seems that there are a few people who are missing the point of the question i think.

The short answer to your question is that a keyword within the domain is definately going to help you when it comes to SEO of your site.

A hypen anywhere in the domain does cost you 'points' with search engines like Google as it seems to think that its 2 words or something.

But by no means is a non keyword domain something that you should avoid, ok you will have to work a little harder to build links for the site with the desired anchor but its still achievable.

    Hope that helped.

Now day,its unavoidable to cut off some of the keyword due to the unavailable of the domain.
But try to minimize the cut off keyword to get better SEO.
