Keyword Discovery and Competing Sites Problem?

So I pulled some statistcal keyword research for myself and got super excited when I found some high traffic keywords with relativley few competing sites. But low and behold when I type the keywords into Google it shows "results" of several million more.

Is this the same thing as competing sites? Anyone know of a solution? I have wordtracker too but the database is so badly saturated I don't trust the results either.

I think it's self-contradictory between the words "high traffic keywords with relatively few competing sites" and "serveral million". Are the "several million" from the "few competing sites"? How do you find this?

BTW, did you try overture and iwebtool keyword tools?

Not sure what your saying... The keyword tool I use shows how many sites are competing "exist" with for that keyword. The discrepency between keyword discovery and googles "results" is totally off. That is my concern/question

I'm a KD user, and as far as I know, they use the Google API to search for the keyword phrase in quotes. That's why it's a much smaller number than a simple phrase search (unquoted).
