Industry standards say around 2-6% (I know, I know...debatable)...however, like the person above said, don't worry about that. If you try too hard at maintaining a certain percentage, you'll likely appear "spammy", and stand a chance at hurting yourself.

Natural and relevant is the best practice - stick with that, and you'll be golden =D

Just continue to promote your site and I think 2 - 4 % to have a good keyword density,

Do keywords in headers have more weight than in regular content? Instead of having my keyword appear several times, would I be better off to have it appear in H1 or H2?

keywords in H1 or H2 won't hurt. that's for sure. But Google constantly change their algorithm.

I would say look at what your competitors are doing, if every front page site has 20% density the you better be close to that, if they have 3-6% (which is probably close to the norm) then you should be at the same percent.. I always look at the sites that rank and see what they do... it doesn't mean you have to do everything they do but I read somewhere that google taks into account what other sites in that niche do..

So if the top 10 sites have been there for 5 years chances are their sites are the measure for other sites in the same niche.

    hi,

I think Keyword density should be between 1% and 3%. Anything more might be treated as keyword stuffing, the overuse of a keyword in the text in an effort to rank higher for that keyword on a search engine results page.We have heard various percentages suggested that Google does not like more than 2%, Yahoo does not like more than 5%.

    Keyword density is bullshit..
    concentrate on Keyword frequency....
freq should be 11 to 13% below 1000 words....

What's the difference between keyword density and keyword frequency? A keyword frequency of 11% to 13% out of a 1000 words (i.e. 110 to 130 times the same keyword repeated) seems an aweful lot and highly inorganic/unnatural to me. Please, explain.

When i read or hear keyword density i try and get it out of my head straight away as i fear i wont be writing naturally then, the focus becomes unnatural, i feel its better to write naturally and your keywords will take placement naturally and it will read normally to the site visitor.

Whatever you do, get your title and headers right. Then add some keywords in content that match those. Keep it natural and get some backlinks with relevant anchor text.
