here is the formula: x/y *100 x= total number of your keywords y=total number of words a good number would be 2%-5%
Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total number of words on the page. In the context of search engine optimization keyword density can be used as a factor in determining whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase.
I heard 1-4%. That means that if your keyword is "dog aggression" then "dog aggression" needs to appear 5x in an article of 500 words to have 1%. 20x to have 4%. 4x in a 400-word articles for 1% etc

Basically take it into account - you don't want too much or you might get lower rankings due to spam - you also don't want too little or google wont pick it up as a keyword.
There're some websites that offer keyword density tool allowing you to analyse the percentage of keyword phrases in a page. It is worth a try (e.g check out seochat)
I've had the best experience between 1-4 percent, although IMO keyword density doesn't really matter that much.

I use a percentage of around 2-3 percent to populate my blog post for specific keywords and keyword phrases. And I do that with the help of neat little tool that you can also use to calculate your keyword density percentages. >>> http://live-keyword-analysis.com/ I try and stay within that percentage I've heard all kinds of different percentages -- as low as 2 percent and as high as 15 percent. I haven't had any problems using 2 to 3 percent. JJ
i don't think any Keyword Density works for search engine, bcoz service provider will be display services with keywords, but you need ignore black hat or hidden text !
The big old search engine's care about user experience. So if a page looks like it was optimized for a certain keyword, not only can the user tell, but the search engine as well. You just want to try to make everything look as natural as you can!
It's the ratio of number of your keywords to the number of words in your site.It should be between 1-3% for a post of length below 500 words & should be between 3-5% for post of length above 500 words.Above this limit search engines will take it as spam. keyword density is one of the important factor whic determines the SERP of a site for that specific kewyword.
What I do when it comes to deciding keyword density is take the average from the top 5 sites in the SERPs. As mentioned this is usually between 2%-5%. I think anything higher than that might be considered spam. But as important is having "related" keywords in your text. So if your keyword is "dog" you would want to include words such as puppy, hound, canine, etc... From what I have learned and what some from Google claim is that you should be able to remove your main keywords and still be able to know what the page is about. my 2 cents
