I agree 100%. Trying to stick to a formula usually results in content that doesn't flow and often sounds repetitive.

There are a number of other ways you can tell search engines what your page/site is about.

    anchor text
    sites linking in
    h1 h2 h3
    keywords in url
    keywords in navigation/breadcrumbs
    image names
    alt text.

With all of the above you don't need to worry about keyword density.

Nowadays it is not that important as it used to be. If you place keyword 3 times in 500 article it will be more than enough.
If you will place it 10 times, so will get punished by Google for keyword spamming.

    Hello dear
Keyword Density is highly important factor while you are writing articles, blogs or any short content for your site.. The ratio should be of 2 to 5% according to me.

Keyword Density - an obvious part for SEO by article submission. If any article that includes keyword density of more that 50%, I can assure you that you can get huge traffic per day.

Google doesnt consider keyword density any more, as Jim4767 said "write in a natural way that flows nicely and readably". But keyword stuffing should still be a consideration.

Use it as much as the content NEEDS it to sound correct.. don't stuff for the sake of it.

Also, if you are using wordpres and all in one seo plug in.. get your keywords in your first sentence or two and in title.. as the plug in takes the first words of article as meta description of the page unless you overide it..

keyword density is very important it notifys search engines of the relevancy of your content to certain keywords which make the search engine pick your content and rank your keywords no keyword density means that your not trying to rank for any keyword your just blogging or writing for fun and you must not go above from 1% to 4% tops to be natural so google love you because your adding value to his searchers

Keyword density is important for how the search engine ranks the page, obviously you shouldn't try and overstuff your keywords, but try and blend in the keywords naturally, so it reads as it should

Agree with golfpro1. I've read all over the net that while keyword density is good, over filling your content with keywords might make Google think your content is spam. You wouldn't want that.
