keyword density in filename

    hi there

im currently developing a new website and i do have one simple question. in terms of SEO does keyword density in filenames matter?

    examples:

    filename type 1 -> cats.html
filename type 2 -> cats_232.html (where "232" is the category id - so that i can use mod_rewrite to get the catid out)

so does "filename type 1" have better SEO than "filename type 2"??
    and
will "filename type 1" get be shown in first when we search for "cats" in google?

    thanks for your help. ;)

PS: i know that the page/spot where your website appears in google doesnt only depend on the this but i want to focus this topic on this particular point. :)

The impact of keywords in file names is very little, if any at all. It won't hurt to have a few, but don't over use keywords in file names.

Use "-" instead of "_" to separate keywords in yoru filenames. Goolge may have a hard time parsing keywords that are not separated by "-". But not sure if that is still true.

Pay more attention to your title tag keywords. That is much more important.

On the issue of - vs _ there was a rumour going around very recently (reported in fairly reputable sources) that google was parsing both the underscore and the hypen in the same way.

It's since been clarified that they are looking into it - but are still not at that point. So as the previous poster suggested - definitely the hypen.

Nah filenames do not matter as much, just make sure your meta tags and descriptions are relevant and you'll do fine, for all google cares you can have query urls like :

    index.php?id=32

Nope, dp doesn't have friendly urls nor is it friendly in general (lol)
But every single thread and every single page is indexed.
Its all about quality of the content.

As far as file names are concerned its not very important but improving metaphors will help quite much

well just "improved" my meta tags (description and keywords) and title of the page. Now they are dynamic and depend of the current page.

you think it would be "better" for me to change to mod_rewrite so that i have search engine friendly url's? or i just need to be patient?

tell me about your experience .. did any of your pages visits improve after you changed to "friendly url's" ?

thanks yall for sharing . ;)
