Keyword density - different amount but same % - which is better

I understand the concept of keyword density.
My question is which density is better? or would they be considered equal?

    1. a page with 100 words. Keyword used 5 times. Keyword density is 5%.

    2. a page with 500words. Keyword used 25 times. Keyword density is 5%.

I think you are looking at this too deeply. My advice is to forget keyword density and just write good content that reads well.

surely 2nd is better, but surely remember what hooperman saying.

If you looking for bots, then do what you doing. but if you looking traffics. write good readable intersting content.

My problem is that I am doing a site for a law firm and from what I have researched that is a very competative market so I need to do absolutey everything possible (within the rules) that will help their rankings. This site is coming from findlaw so they usually had very good rankings there. They were just tired of paying 15K a year.

I will have good content on the site but I think you can have good content and a good density as well. If I were to have 100 words on the page and a key word used 5 times I think would not be over done. 1 keyword in a link, 1 keyword in the title tag, 1 keyword as the content opener, and two times in a short pharagraph. I think that could be done without compromising how the content reads.

    Ya think?

You're making a big assumption that there is an optimum keyword density constant. If KD is actually considered by search engines (and it's only speculation that it is) wouldn't it be used on a comparative basis? i.e. my page has 6% but your page has 7% so yours has more weight (within limits).

There is no definitive answer to this question and there are many people who don't even think that KD is even used.

I am assuming that it is just one small portion of the whole. I may have 6% and you 7% but I have more inbound links. I'm not just focusing on the density to get rankings but I do want to optomize every optomization tool available.

    Is there a God?

If there is no God and I do not believe in Him....I have lost nothing
If there is no God and I do believe in Him....I have lost nothing

If there is a God and I do believe in Him....I have gained everything
If there is a God and I do not believe in Him....I have lost everything

That's kinda' how I'm think about it....
    Thanks for your advice.
