I heard Google is safe around 2%, although my question is, does the recommended KW Density change by the keyword phrase??

For instance, I've seen a major difference with this example:

    "blue-widgets"
    "cool-blue-widgets"

A two word keyword does well with around 2%, but a three word is less, more like 1.25%.

Can anyone else comment on this??

I too have noticed this, it may be the fact that some site subjects have been targetted with a certain algorithm before others, or it may be Google hasn't actually fully noticed the sites in question or somthing completely different such as Gypsy said.

Keyword density is irrelevant today. Write for your visitors and try to use the keywords and don't focus on the percentage.

Edit: I'm ranking #1 on important keywords with less than 1% to about 15% in keyword density. This is what I base my conclusions on.
