Keyword competitors using black hat techniques

Newbie here. I have been researching and learning all that I can about SEO on my own site in order to better serve my clients which increasingly demand high search engine ranking.

I have been optimizing my site for relevant keywords and examining my competitors sites to see how to rank equal to or better than them. When I look at the top five competitiors for the keywords "graphic design austin" and review their pages and code I learn that 3 of my top 5 competitors are using 'black hat' techniques to increase their ranking. THis is troubling on several fronts, first and foremost, those in my industry should know better. Secondly how do I compete when my competitors don't play fair.

I have reported the offenders to Google as spam, but Google doesn't seem to take any action.

    Suggestions?

Hmm, maybe google is getting a lot of adsense income from that site.

Balck hat techniques are sure to be penalized by google. If they are not doing it now , they will.and u should not be encouraged to use black hat to see if google is not penalizing one, why it will do mine ?
U must continue to go on with fair practises.

I have reported the offending sites here:

    www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html[/url]

are there more proactive ways to let Google know of this problem? I am not interested in adopting the black arts to compete. But i would very much like these cheating cmpetitors to stop.

What are they actually doing? Google is unlikely to do much about it. The best thing is to forget about your site and start building some links.

would be gr8 if you would let us a bit more about their black hat techniques,so we can really be sure, if they are indeed using blakc hat techniques.
google does not favor any1, u piss them off, u die in G world.
but it does takes them time to respond.

Focus on your links. This is the most important part of defeating any blackhat technique. Do a google on link analyzation:))))))))

The three compettitor sites are all using hidden text to stuff keywords. Although there pages have very little content so i am assuming most of their success is due to backlinks from sites they have created that link back to their site which is entirely appropriate I would think.

Any suggestions on what can be done to bring them 'into the light' other than just waiting it out?

I'm also curious whether ther keyword stuffing is really contributing that much to their ranking given G emphasis on backlinks which the sites also have. WHich, as I said in my previous post is entirely appropriate, I would think.

    forget it and move on,

Try to beat with white Hat SEO, and let them figure out, how to beat you?

I bet they wont be able to. I kno that sounds gay but nuttin else i can think of.
