I'm sometimes confused with Google, when I'm trying to find out the exact number of competing pages. As you know, you put the keyword in quotes and then search. So I did that few weeks for one of my keywords, and got a result of 1k pages. I did the same search for the same keyword yesterday, and got 55k competing pages...Also this type of "change" happened to many of my keywords. Some that had 20-30k competing pages, now have like 150k... Any explanations?
There can be two reasons: 1.Some other competitors have registered the same keywords in this period of time 2.Some more sites have been added to google in this period of time. And they use these keywords.too. Then you find this "change".Don't worry, you can find some ways to keep your website rank such as SEO or Adwords.
That's just impossible, because it would be VERY unnatural competition raise for some of the keywords.
i saw this before, it's a glitch, a little flaw in the way google interprets quotes, if you got 1000 results then that's probably the real number and 55 000 are the results without quotes, try it again and u may get "1000" again, and by the way typing just ur keywords in quotes isnt the right way to find the exact number of competing pages, what you should type is this: intitle:"keyword"
Like the guy above says, it will just be a glitch, that jump is way to big to be a natural addition to the database. Im always amazed that people are still doing this kind of research by hand, its much much quicker to use a tool. Seriously, saves you hours.
