Hi Guys, I have spent the last couple of weeks pumping through a keyword analysis, vastly time consuming but hopefully will pay off in the long run. Anyway, the result is a spreadsheet with the local and global keyword search numbers (found via google ad words on the exact term), the number of websites out there for both local and global, and the amount of sites out there that are competing for said keyword (again both global and local results found with the allinanchor:KEYWORD syntax) I have a local and global based KEI score and KOI (KIO being based on searches against the amount of websites competing) An example of my output (fictional) would be; Large Crisp Local searches - 9,900 Global searches - 49,500 Amount of sites Local - 2,050,000 Amount of sites Global - 54,400,000 Competing Local - 17,000 Competing Global - 508,000 Large Crisps Local searches - 6,600 Global searches - 33,100 Amount of sites Local - 10,100,000 Amount of sites Global - 65,300,000 Competing Local - 840,000 Competing Global - 18,000,000 The first produces a huge KEI/KOI numbers and the second, not bad KEI/KOI scores. My questions; 1 - should I be looking to base my intentions on Local results, Global results or both? The site is targeting a UK only market 2 - Based on my scores and raw data "Large Crisp" would be the keyword to go for......? But onsite it does not read well, if I was selling Large Crisps I want to put large crisps so how would I go about this. 3 - Offsite back linking, would I be using the anchor test of Large Crisp or Large Crisps? Any pointers greatly appreciated Thanks
Looks like you really did your homework here. I myself would like to know. I'm w/ UKGC - anyone out there that can help?
I am having the same difficult time finding out the same answer, I ended up picking up local results for mine just because of the business. But I would love to see some more input on this question.
I am also from the UK and I have been trying to find the answer to this question myself. The Google Adwords Keyword Tool blurb gives me the impression that we should be looking at 'Local search volume' rather than Global. However, when I put in a very localised long-tail keyword, fictional example 'simon's paul hairdressing salon' I often see 'No data' in Local results but 20-30 in Global searches - Hmm... This gives me the impression that we should be considering Worldwide search volume as well. RE: Your Anchor text - I would link build with the phrase 'Large Crisps' in mind. This will assist you with searches relating to 'Large Crisp' and 'Large Crisps' so you kill two birds with one stone. I did some keyword research for my firm and I found very little benefit from KEI/KOI - In the end I just used my instinct and opted for two terms that I thought were best. Whether this was because I was using the analysis incorrectly I am not sure, but I have never found much benefit from using KEI as it only measures pages and not competition. Anthony
