At the moment I have a list of about 25 keywords that I promote and track in google. The only way I can get accurate results is to type that word and search through the pages until I find my site. Are there any accurate tools to automatically do this? I have tried a few but the results the give don't always match google.
Use this tool to check the google position for your URL for a particular keyword http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/multiple-datacenter-keyword-position/
First you should understand, that using automated tools to check page ranks at Google is a violation of their terms of service and Webmaster Guidelines. If they catch you doing it, they will typically ban your entire block of IP addresses from accessing Google for 24 hrs. An old SEO at our company wrote his own rank checker and the 1st time he used it, our entire company was banned from using Google for 24hrs. That being said, most all SEOs do it using tools like IBP (iBusiness Promoter) and Web Position Gold. I use IBP. It works great. If you purchase software to do this yourself from one of your network machines, just be sure that it has some human emulation feath that allows you to control random delays between each keyword query to make it look as though a human is actually performing the search.
I'm also doing what you are doing.. I'm doing traditional method to look for rankings on my targeted keywords..
See what keywords you're getting traffic from in your traffic stats. That's the best way, and you can find some other keywords that you may never have thought of and would be able to rank easily.
