Justice Dept. reveals the true story about gun violence

In the last 5 months we have seen a crusade against guns from the left, as they try to capitalize on recent mass shootings to gain pubic support. The new study shows that gun murder rates in the US have dropped 39% since 1993. This sharp downward trend seems to conflict the message coming from the left, that guns, specifically assault weapons, are an increasing problem. The report does not analyze reasons for the sharp decrease in gun violence.

Among many of the arguments for gun control, one of the most widely supported was universal background checks. The law that made it to the senate would have required background checks on private sales, exempting family members. The effect of the law, they said, would to eliminate the gun show loophole. The new study shows that < 2% of convicted felons reported buying a weapon at a gun show or flea market. 37% stole or obtained illegally their weapon. 40% obtained a weapon from a family member or friend. So the law as it was written would not have produced the effect that the authors intended. That is because 80% of the felons stole guns, or obtained guns from family members. These 2 categories would have not been effected by universal background checks.

The more shocking statistic is crimes committed with guns excluding murder. The report shows a drop of 70% since 1993.

So for those of you that believe the NRA is creating some sort of crazy gun touting world of killers, the facts are not on your side. For those that believe an assault weapons ban or universal background checks will effect gun violence numbers, the facts are not on your side.

 

Unfortunately, all those statistics are irrelevant. According to a study released by the Pew Research Center, Americans think gun violence is on the rise in America.
