Like on my title, i was wondering is there any effects to submit our website to other search engine(not google, msn, yahoo, odp)?

Because my friend said if you submit to them, you might get spam email.
and no one doing search of ur website over there.
I hope u guys get what i mean.

    Thanks :)

you may... you can always block spam, unless your using msn... then you can block the first 250, lol.

Well it would be better to submit your site to directories because them you can get backlink, which will raise your rank in the big search engines.

not alot of people will come to your site though these search engine, so alot of people don't submit to them... But I would submit to the top 10.

Google, Yahoo, Msn, Ask, AlltheWeb, AltaVista, Gigablast, Hotbot, Surch, Snap.com... After the top 3 it just drops off, top 5 would have been easier.... all the other aren't that big.

However, most search engines will find your website by themselves. (Especially if you do as decole07 suggests and get many backlinks)

I think some of the engines will pick you up on their own. I get hits from search engines I don't think I ever submitted to.

Many/most don't drive traffic. However, some may drive a wee bit of traffic. I run one engine that does a few million searches a month - that won't bring down the house, but might bring in the odd bit. I run another engine that is very narrowly targetted - it doesn't do much traffic but any traffic it does bring it would be high converting (due to it's niche nature).

I never submit to search engines. Post your signature (in footer or in any non-spammy form) in popular forums (such as this one) and your site would be placed in "sites to be searched" que within 2 days, guaranteed.

I've heard of the signature method being a qualified way to go. I think that as long as the site your using it on is indexed frequently as well, that could help a fair bit.

I submitted my very first site to the search engines, it did ok.

My second site, I let the SEs find it on their own and it does much better.

Not sure if the two are related, I have learned a lot since then.
