I have always wanted to start a directory, and I finally did.

Are you expecting a reciprocal link or did you click that setting by mistake?

 

I am indeed expecting reciprocal links. I believe directories that accept everyone and do not require recip links are link farms and very useless and unsuccessful.

I believe that by starting off with high standards from the very beginning will be the very factor that gets me to the level of success that I want to be at. I have consulted many successful directory owners and they have assured me that by sticking to my plan I will create and maintain a great reputation in the future.

So add the links!!!

Looks like you are going to need to get some backlinks first if thats how you expect it to work..

 

Yeah, I realize that people do not want to add a recip link unless the PR of the directory is high and the directory is popular. I am working on the backlink issue right now. A PageRank predictor that I did a few days ago predicted that in the next update, searchpuple.com would have a PR of 6, but I am expecting a PR3.

I am also going to be buying a link building service within the week, and I will be writing my own article and haivng the backlink go to searchpurple.com. I am then going to submit that article to about 20 web sites, which will give me 20 quality links, as well as promote the article, so I will have about 100 links from articles.

Get your link now while business is slow!!!

 

Be sure to post back here later when the directory is established. Also, you may want to consider adding an affordable "payment to be listed" option, as an alternative to reciprocal for those who do not have a links page or do not want to post a link back.

 

You know, you don't have to add everyone. In fact the rejection rate with many directories is many times the acceptance rate.

The recip checker is not broken. Make sure you copy and paste the code given to you in the submit page because it checks for that EXACT code. I wish I could fix that, but I cannot at the moment...

my words... directories are supposed to be free in order to provide users with useful resources. YOU decide which sites are useful for their appropriate category but the way you are thinking you rather just accept those to be "useful" that can pay you.

 

Yes, it should be free at least for DP
