Having not looked at Ask for ages, I gave it a go the other day. and it is a very nicely laid out search page now. - Expand or Narrow your suggestions on one side, image, news and video suggestions on the other.

Can it eat into google's marketshare? - Thar remains to be seen - though I wouldn't be surprised to see google picking up on some of their features.

What is their relationship with google, anyway? I see they carry google ads (sponsored listings) so what is the deal there?

After reading this post I thought I would have a look.

I love the main layout, it is very Web 2.0 :)

Also love the effect of the search results.

It looks a lot better than the main google page but I think google is still "the daddy"

I don't think Ask.com could ever catch up to Google, just because of Google's stellar brand name, but I am willing to bet Ask.com can gain 10% of market share. :)

I saw it as well. I love Ask.com's new design, but their results are still terrible (IMO). Tis all they need to fix for me to start using it.

Do Ask use Google Search results? They look to be using Google Ads anyway....

There are probably a lot of people like that. I think that we all get hung up about the quality of a SE's results, but what really determines their market share is advertising. Google seems unbeatable because a lot of new computers get loaded with Google desktop, and it's always in the news.

I love their maps personally. I like the way you can click and add destinations or move existing destinations and it automatcally updates the driving directions. pretty damn hot if you ask me.
