I just received a $5 donation via paypal. I have several websites with concrete content + great design without any ads. It must be from one of them. Sad I didn't have tracking code in place or I will know exactly which site scored....lol. It's not much but it really feels great! You know you have helped someone and at the same time made a little extra money. I suggest you all do that. You just don't know when one of the visitors would feel like buying you a beer!
People are actually pretty cool about making donations to support free software/information, especially if they're making money from it. I've got a Buy Me A Guinness donation button on my site

A lot of people are actually really good about sending donations for good software/advice/help/something, i've had a few people ask to donate money to me because of helping in forums or whatever, a few through one of my sites also. I do find that it's usually users from the US and the UK that will donate though, most other places seem not to want to (and some people even go as far as to blocking certain countries from viewing their sites because of it).
