Step one: Find your semi-established competitor. What i mean by that is that you should find an established website related to yours as closely as possible but don't go for anything too big. Step two: Go on Google, MSN, Yahoo and search for the following: link:competitor.com Step three: Pick up all the links they got for free. You would never guess some of the places people get their links from. Just a second ago i have found a PR6 website, which has a tool that runs a certain check on your website. It also keeps a log of the latest 10 searches. One of my competitors has managed to find a way to keep his URL in top 10 at all times. I just had to do the same Yea, its not easy, it does take time and a lot of filtering through google results but like i said after 5 or so hours i have managed to pick up around 200 PR3-7 links. The best thing is that you already know that these will work.
To be honest, that is a really decent way of doing things and yet free and simple! Cheers matey! I'll be doing that in the morning. Now why didn't I think of that?! *ponders*
SoftCloud No worries, good luck. johan-cr Iv been using this for ages myself untill i have found reliable sources for traffic but then, after launching my first adult website i was in the new area so i remembered the good old competition trick.
i'm probably a dope, but i don't get the step three part, the part about how to keep it in the top 10 searches.
Having Aaron Wall's SEO for Firefox to be used for your link building campaign is definately going to speed things up a bit Good post man.
devin Just a little hole my competitor found and i just copied. I am not going to reveal the website because if everyone starts doing this i will end up with nothing. iskandar Im surprised i have never heard about this one. I use searchstatus plugin but the one you mentioned looks better. Thanks!
Yeah thanks for sharing. Ive been doing this for a while. Best way to get established in a new niche. The problem arises when you are in a competitive niche and each competitor has 10,000 backlinks in google lol. Search engines will only show 1,000 by using that query but its still a lot of work
Why only a semi-established site? I can see starting with the semi-established site because they will have less links to sort through. But shouldn't you then work up the list to the more established sites. Each site will have found other great link opportunities. But it does become less productive, I imagine, as you start to look through bigger and bigger lists of links.
Well the problems is... For example if you were running a site similar to digg and you looked at how digg was getting their backlinks you would not stand a chance. I mean people blog about digg, people mention digg in forums... the backlinks they get now days are natural. You wont be able to get a newspaper to write about your site, you wont be able to get bloggers to blog about it... The semi-established sites i was talking about are those sites where webmasters like us actually go around and submit their links to various places so that you can just follow their footsteps... Rather than those relying on the word of mouth
could you please detail step three? I do't really understand what you mean by "Pick up all the links they got for free" and what's the point of it. How do you get your link where their link is? or am I completely missunderstanding the concept?
The concept is simple. Copy what other competitors are doing. I usually add some to what they do, so things are rather original and better
Thanks for the reminder! I used to use this tool on my old computer but forgot to install it on my newer one. Definelty a cool tool, saves a bunch of time.
You will basically get to see their backlinks. For example a backlink from some social bookmark network. You just register and submit your site as well. Its just finding places to submit your site to.
I've used this method in the past, it's a great way to build organic links at little cost. Also, try this in Google: allinurl:yournicheword link Code (markup):
Thanks this is a great idea. Now I just have to find my competition. I will let you know what links I find that they have (free of course I hope), hehe.
