Just noticed my site at Dmoz

I just noticed my blog directory was listed in dmoz. While I do appreciate the backlink, I am curious what the benefit is. I dont know when they listed it, but I have seen no traffic from the listing.

I know the pr is loked at well by others, but without traffic, what good is it?

 

It's a backlink. That's all.

Don't expect any traffic from it. In my experience, traffic from DMOZ is rare unless it comes from DMOZ editors.

 

1. A good backlink (DMOZ)
2. Paves the way to get listed in Google Directory. (Another Backlink).
3. Some catagories have very good PR with few links. You can enjoy good PR.
4. You are mentally satisfied

 

Ahh, mental stability. Well, at least some good may come of it. My wife will be thankful.

 

My understanding also is that given two sites otherwise equal a DMOZ listing will outrank one without in the Google algorithm.

 

I know of no evidence whatsoever that supports that belief.

 

Lot of directory owners use dmoz data to replicate, so you have now chance to get more backlinks, though it could be rare.

 

More discounted backlinks.

 

Be nice to your wife

 

Plus tomo if you wanna sell your site.. you can get good money just coz its lisited in dmoz.

 

Thanks for the input everyone. It does seem to be a bit over rated, but since it did not cost anything, and does not hurt me, I guess I will be thankful and hope for the best.
