I have officially launched Stop Mom Stop, which is designed to be a place where Mom's can take a break for a few minutes a day to interact with each other and help others become better Moms. This is a big step for me because it basically means I'm entering into the first phase of my big plan of launching and managing several related niche sites, and I've laid a lot of groundwork for being able to manage multiple sites effectively - splitting time between content building and promotion and leaving a little bit on the side for development of new features. It also means that I'll be able to start spending some more time around these parts again since community participation is one of my main planned promotional avenues. Now I can tell my wife that I have to be hanging out here - it's work! Anyhow, wish me luck, please excuse the blatant plug, and provide me a little bit of feedback if you will. Or join in and participate. The site has no pagerank currently, but rest assured any links you put forth in the forums will be coming from a high quality site and I'll be focused on generating a lot of quality inbound links. If you have a quality related site and want to do a little cross promotion, please let me know.
Oh boy... I just got a PM saying the site looks like crap! Is that the general consensus?!? If it is, I really need to get back to the drawing board and quick. I haven't gotten much feedback about it yet, but what I've heard so far has been positive... but then again, my Mom would probably like anything that I did
I was going to congadulate you but then I realized that you are a man. It is a bit contradictory to me that you are building a site for moms but you tell your wife you are busy so you don't have to be around her. You basicaly make your wife unable to join these sites as she won't have more free time without you around her. I wonder why you didn't make a "dad stop dad" site and help men to help each other to be better husbands or fathers? sometimes we do things for people out there but we don't see our ownselves. just a suggestion - nothing to be offended with-
I posted a review about this already http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=2505219&postcount=3 If you haven't checked hopefully the suggestions will help you out with your CTR
Your page looks great. I think it is wonderful that a man realizes the craziness mothers deal with and is trying to connect them all together keep up the good work
I appreciate the kind words. I think the site is building out well, but I already have a pretty big sized to-do list. We're at well over 3000 page views in the first week of being live and I have yet to do a single thing to promote the site other than to ask for reviews. I did put a link from my blog a few days ago, but that hardly counts. I think we have something good going here. Hopefully it can really take off once I start putting in practice all of my DP-found knowledge. 3000 page views isn't a lot, but from a getting started perspective, a premature launch, and a decided lack of promotion... I'm excited about the possibilities. There was a time in my life when that would have been a very impressive monthly number.
for some reason the css files are loading really slow and without them it just looks like crap, i waited 20 seconds for them to load on one page
To me it looked fine. Great job. I'm stuck on dial up as I live in a secluded area and it loaded fine for me. Roger
It looks like a nice, cute looking site. If anyone says otherwise, then they must be really hard to please. Moms will love it.
Well jeez, that was helpful wasn't it. Did your critic give any actual advice or just drop a helpful little bomb? It doesn't look like crap to me, but maybe you've been tweaking at it since your first post? Anyway looking at it in FF, here's what strikes me and all of this is just MHO as you know so by all means blow it off if you don't agree. Centre it and change the grey background - perhaps the baby blue in the logo. The heavy black line above the word Recently is sort of jarring. I see that is what you have done with all the headers but there is something going on in that little corner with the edge of the ADsense, the peach divider and the black line that just looks a bit off. And lastly, you've got lot of different font sizes and colours there NevetS. It might look cleaner if you were to unify that a bit. You might want to add something to or change the Title a bit too. Something for Busy Moms. More people might search for busy and mother than stop mom. Other than that, great job and good luck with it. I am a major busy mom myself so let me know if you'd like an article on juggling two kids, a business and a menagerie of pets.
e10 - that's great feedback and I appreciate the time you took to analyze the site! I will definitely be hitting you up for some articles and I will help to promote your sites. I'm vested in the success of this project, and one of the goals we have is to help mom-webmasters promote their sites and online businesses. I'm going to hold back for just a little while so that we don't have the appearance of trying to push a new product or a new site every day. To be most effective, I think it's a matter of splitting the content up regularly - keeping the visitors coming back and gaining a reputation for listing and reviewing quality venues that Moms are interested in. But hey, I could go on for hours about the PLANS. I'll shoot you a PM as we get past the initial launch stage in the near future. Aside from that one PM, most of the feedback I've received has been both positive and insightful. Right now I'm focusing on absorbing all that feedback and deciding on which changes to implement so we can make a quick push into the direction of marketing. (I want to ensure a quality product before I spend a lot of time and money on promotion). The critic did offer his design services, but when pressed it seems his complaints were centered around the decided lack of curves and things like using a wider spectrum of colors (and perhaps a better spectrum of colors). As I'm trying to build something that could sustain itself on relatively low powered hardware with moderately high traffic levels - and being able to sustain itself through a few promotional booms, I can't quite open myself up to design aspects that will dramatically increase the page load times or server loads. Certainly there is a lot of room for improvement, but I still have to be wary of focusing too much on pretty and ignoring practical. I can't fault someone for his opinion, and certainly I am no professional. He did have me worried, however, that his honest feedback was the general consensus. What can I say... I have a fragile ego at times
It doesn't look like crap. It's not amazing, you could use the services of a professional designer. That said, the ads are placed well, so you should get decent revenue
I am a bit offended. This post is sexist against all men and is loaded with grammar and spelling problems. Don't broad brush all men as bad husbands and fathers. I am pretty good at both and had time to put up a page for my wife and finance a bunch of activities for her and our 2 daughters with income from sites like nevetS site. Visit the grammar forum in your signature link before posting again......just a suggestion - nothing to be offended with
