No. There is no such things as a "SERP update" per se. It happens continuously. All that's changing in a PR or backlinks update like this one is that changes already made in Google are going public.

Very intresting thing to note Minstrel, but there is a major change in SERPs which we can term as SERP update. I agree that small changes keep on happening almost everyday.

I have seen that there have been some weird changes in the SERPs aswell but I wont say that they were updates bcoz I maintain a record of the SERP changes and found that the current SERPs for most keywords are same as in January 2006. So do you call it an update?
The PR for new domains have definitely changed most of them gaining PR3-4-5 from a PR0. I really hope that this PR stays stable PR0-PR6 is a giant leap but a really weird one and leaves no value for the PR if new websites are getting higher PR's than the sites that have been around for a while.

It's not a matter of my opinion or yours. There is no "SERP update" unless it is a significant update to the algorithm (and this isn't one of those). Read what Cutts says about this at the link I provided above.

This is an an announced Toolbar PR update following Big Daddy. It's not a major algorithmic update of the sort that would see a significant shift in Google rankings.

I went from PR0 (a couple days ago) to PR4 on about half the centers last night. This morning I'm showing PR4 on all but 9. Google was showing a couple links for me last night, but back to 0 this morning.

If everyone got the jump I did after 2 months, then I think a PR4 is now equal to a PR1-2.

    No.

PageRank (PR) is calculated on the basis of number and quality of backlinks to a specific page.

Normally I would be sceptical but today I see my linking site has got PR5 after less than 4 weeks purely using natural links.

i would say that it might not be an update on SERPs, but yes, rankings keep on changing, Also what you are looking at might be due to flux and you are getting old results.

Yes, a change in Algorithm can bring in major shift in the SERPs, but i have usually seen that there is some changes in rankings.
    First backlink and PR update
    and then Rankings Update

My new site went from 0 - 6 - the site went up January 25th. (still happy dancing) (it's showing the 6 on about 3/4 of the dc's from that tool posted here)
