Soon I'll be publishing my official results, but for the last few months I kept my blog under the domain http://www.blogideas.co with very little search engine traffic. A couple of a weeks ago I decided to convert to a .com instead and purchased http://www.blog-ideas.com. While I wasn't ranked in the top 100 for the search term "blog ideas" the entire time I operated under the .co, I'm currently ranked #4 in Google's search results with my new .com domain. I have only posted two new posts since switching to the .com, but clearly .com's are vastly superior to .co's.
Yap, the domain name is really important. Another mistake that newbies can make is to buy an ".info" domain name because it costs like less than a dollar but it will cost you a lot more in the long run. You have to buy ".com" from the very beginning.
Just wanted to chime in again and state that it is amazing what the power of a domain name can do. I've wised up in the last couple months and all my .co's are now .com's...amazing difference even though the amount of content added has been minimal.
.com is more preferable by search engine but this changes might be too big influence. Is that after you change your domain extension, you do change some other thing which cause your site get index ?
Your web business’ domain name is your first impression with users and potential customers. The right one can give you instant credibility, succinctly express what your business is all about, or go viral. It is said, buying an eye-popping, expensive domain name is far from necessary to start a successful business, and in many cases can be a poor use of capital.
