Hello, I just submitted, and got listed into these 10 directories. I believe they are mostly the top directories, the only 2 I couldn't get into were DMOZ and business because of the nature of the webiste. I got into Yahoo, BOTW, Joeant, gimpsy, wow, rubber stamped, skaffe, uncover the net, web beacon, and stpt. How much of a boost will this give my PR? It is currently a PR1. I know this is not a cut and dry question, I just want to get a general idea. Thanks.
You should see a nice boost. I would suggest you get into some others through the Services forum here on DP
I have just heard a lot about getting into "bad" directories, and that it will have a negative effect on PR and SERP. So I guess what I am trying to say, is that I have a hard time trusting directories, and figuring out if they are "good" or "bad".
So if your competition take your site and submit it to "bad" directories do you think your site will get penalized ? This a legend, that the "bad" link exists, there are only poor links and powerful links, there is no such thing as "bad" links.
Your site is indexed in some great directories (yahoo etc) and this will give you some great SERPS and PR results. I'm sure!
Let me know how it goes because I'm not noticing any difference after submitting to like 50 directories!
The directory links certainly will not hurt you. You mentioned how it will affect PR, but that shouldn't be your marketing focus and it should be part of a good directory's focus. Directories are just one part of good site marketing. They definately do help though in getting your site distributed to SEs and other directories. The sites you listed are good choices in beginning your campaigns to drive traffic to your site.
