just FREEWAREs

I am wondering , would i be able to create quality banners and logos using just freewares?

Please advise what are the softwares that i would need.

And I am just beginning on Logo and Header making, could anyone recommend where and how to start?

 

in my opinion you could depending on what software / os you have gimp could create some fairly good logo's / headers for you however if you are talking about logo generators and such they just completely suck, and their quality is pretty poor.

inkscape, I made my first designs out of it. And yeah, gimp works well for basic stuff and design.

 

I have never used gimp, but looking at other designers (who use gimp), it sounds a cool freeware.
I love my PSCS3, and I only use that!

 

You could try Inkscape. I tried it and it's fine. Also, Gimpshop or paint.net.

 

Use gimp and visit Gimp User Group, they have good tutorials for beginners

 

Gimp is great for newbies like me!

 

thanks, i am starting to use GIMP.... i use gimpshop too, i had experience using photoshop so it helps

 

I've been dabbling with paint.net and like it pretty well, but I've never done graphic work before so I have no frame of reference for how good it is compared to other programs.

I don't know enough at this point to invest in Photoshop, so until I've learned a good bit more, how does paint.net compare to Gimp? Are they about the same as far as what can be created with them?
