the last few days ive been starting to use photoshop and doing some photoshop tutorials and learning some new skills i want to create a logo for my music site, and here is my first attempt Im not sure what the whole design process is but my website is about music so the vinyl and tonearm forming the first letter 'b' is pretty self explanatory but the rest of the design i guess its meant to mimic the cardboard sleeves that hold vinyl in and i try to make the rest of the text look like it was stamped on what do you think? any feedback will be much appreciated see the full size here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/the_invalid/4620742847/sizes/o/
The logo is ok, but I can't imagine a website where you could fit that background in. Unless your whole site has the same background, which I don't see working really well. My suggestion would be to keep a solid (or gradient) background and work with that. Cheers
yes other people have told me that a logo must be independent of a background so i have changed the background to white and have created a similar logo, lots of people have trouble understanding the vinyl is meant to form the letter 'b' so i have changed it a little to try and make it look more like a letter what you think
Second attempt is much better. Also, you should try to resize it to see how it would look very small, like on a business card or as a signature at the bottom of an ad, or seen on a billboard by someone very far. It has to make to same effect at all sizes to be a good logo. Also check the outline of all letters with round curves. The thickness looks a little inconsistent and the roundness a little off.
Hi There I like your logo, it's simple and clean and punchy. I'm just a little concerned what wil happen when you shrink it, I think you may lose the detail on the record deck. I'd try making that particular part of the logo much bigger and not part of the text. Also you could maybe use the record deck on it's own. Ste
Hi I think the logo looks a lot better on white than on the coloured background. I think you are able to read the icon as a 'b' a lot better on the 2nd also when it is sized inline with the rest of the text.
ok so i tried another idea i think the vinyl texture will not be seen clearly at smaller size i came up with another idea to make the vinyl and tonearm look more like a letter, i merged the layers and then gave it a border using outer glow im very happy with the results Ive also added some colour, seeing as my website has a orange, red and brown colour scheme i thought i may aswell include at least one of these colour what you prefer
Edit ok added one more design as well i tried to go with a yingyang sort of thing, i really think using the border helps users distinguish that its a letter, and i could even use the 'b' and 'p' letters on the own to form a smaller logo edit 2 here is the idea i had regarding the use of the letter 'b' & 'p'
Much better! I wouldn't worry about the people that can't figure out that is a "b"... they're not in your target audience anyway What about the orange part in the "b", are you ready to commit to orange as a color on everything you use, or are you going to turn that logo completely black and white?
Woooo I just saw your newer posts....... dude.... RESIZE pictures before uploading them to a forum. I still like the original version on the white background best.
Those last two are lookin' awesome. I'm just getting into photoshop/adobe programs and it's pretty fun. You did great with your logo - good luck with everything.
You said you just starting to use Photoshop? I'm just wondering, did you make that dj disk thingy? If you're using stock-art, you'll get into a lot of trouble. Plus it doesn't make your logo that much original.
For a first timer... I would say you have done a pretty good job! I find the second one a lot better... nice and clean! Regards, RightMan
Didnt look at them all, But the first one looked more professional then the second one, And you can easily repeat that background on the first, So I dont see it being such a problem
It is unusual for a record to reflect 4 spokes of light, make it so there is only 2 opposite each-other and then see how it looks
thanks for all your comments and sorry about the full size images ive had a think and its all nice being able to see the details of the vinyl graphic on a huge sized version of the logo but realistically this logo is going to be viewed only on the internet, in forum signatures, and on my website so i think bold and simple is the key. i also like going with this simple bold style as i can use the letter 'b' and 'p' to create a logo for avatars on social websites. taking this in note ive redesigned the logo and im happy with the outcome so far, i need to decide a colour scheme though and need to make it look neater and maybe redrawn the letters that look like vinyl mikeasro - thanks for pointing this out to me ive been wondering what has been making it look not quite right i got the vinyl image from a free stock image site so its fine to use, but it doesnt anymore im going with the simple and bold style 1 - 2 - 3 -
Good I do like it. I also try on how to draw a logo as well but I make a Illustrator logo. I did write it with my own knowledge to all people who like the design. if you are interested on it you can find out it here http://creativelayer.blogspot.com/2010/03/how-to-create-adobe-illustrator-logo-in.html
Yo, I like #1 best but #4 could work as well, with one side note: that light blue doesn't really go with the orange you chose. I would try it with a darker blue or a darker shade of violet.
