I just purchased a site that it made in Joomla and I need a little help on moving it over. I copied all of the files over to my server and added the domain and changed nameservers. I know I am supposed to copy the SQL database over but do I find this in the files I copied from the sellers files via FTP? If so, where should I look for these files and where should I place them in my cpanel? Maybe I am making it harder than it should be. Should I just create new databases? Im lost! Thanks in advance!
i try to answer, why u donot use joomlapack component?it's easy to move your old site to another server, just install this component in your old site, backup it's, download backup file and just put it into your new server, u just need to make blank database in phpmyadmin en just run joomla installation, for futher info u can directly access to official site joomlapack dot net, cmiiw
I've moved over 50 website for clients and I ALWAYS use JoomlaPack. Never any problems, it's just like installing Joomla. Cheers, J.
You don't have to install any new components etc. There is a built in plugin in Joomla Called 'Backup'. It backs up your database after reguler intervals. And send it by email to you.(BTW I love this plugin) I think you should use it. If you have Cpanel just create a new MYSQL database and upload the .sql file. Create a new user for the databases note down the auto assigned password. Now you will have to change the information in your configuration.php file it is also very easy. If you are still confused drop me a line I will help you.
You can't go wrong with Joomlapack. I've just migrated 20 sites from my previous hosting company and whilst manually tranfering them is as straight forward as uploaded the site and restoring the db, Joomlapack makes it more straight forward and will save you some time.
