hello guys , i have a quick question , i am running a soccer site , and the thing is that all the content is original like highlights and other posts , but the problem is my news section , i am busy posting live soccer links so i dont get to write about news , is it alryt if i copy 2-3 articles from either goal.com , espn soccernet or skysports?? will this news category will make my other ranking go down on search engine?

i am using wordpress, i have XML-sitemap plugin i have even selected not to index news category but it still gets indexed , and i dont know how to modify my robots.txt so it cannot index news posts.

help will be very appreciable :)

how about just nofollow linking through to the stories, and summarising them in your own words? that way you would see your relevancy increase whilst still offering a good news resource?

Hmm, i can only suggest perhaps creating a specific page (if you dont have one) solely for these copied news articles but include "rel=noindex, nofollow" if you're looking to stop robots counting the content on that page. That way they don't return anything on those pages in searches so you can't be penalised. Had a quick look at the site, it's not bad! Hope this helps.

Who cares if it affects rankings? It's not LEGAL. If you don't own the content, you may not publish it without the owner's permission or a license. If you want their content, license it. There is no excuse to be a thief. Do and you'll have far bigger problems than Google.
