I want to bring about a small incident happened to my friend recently, I am just pasting his mail to me, you just decide if its fair or not

now, actually when I read this msg, the first thing I did was to have a big laugh as he posted he was raised a dispute for winning contest amount :p

I want to just know if this is a fair deal done to my friend ? Are the contests conducted on forums for them to stick in there, then there should be a clear guideline stating it, isn't it ?? Am I any way wrong with my remarks ??

I am not weary if all other forums and their contests work on the same basis, for a member not being active for a few days after the contest - u get banned and dispute raised

now, I feel sorry for my friend though :(

Yep it sounds like he's been a bit hard done by there.

I guess it just depends if the forum owner stated or not he had to remain active for a period of time after. Seems like the forum owner has jumped the gun a bit as well banning and disputing with paypal after only a few days of not posting.

If I were him and its not too much money, Id just forget about it and move on.

It doesn't have to be fair.

A forum belongs to someone, and the person who owns it makes the rules. If he doesn't tell you those rules, it doesn't matter - his house, his rules. He can ban you whenever he likes. He can make up new rules whenever he wants. He can make special rules just for you.

Now, that said, the owner of this forum is a jerk and you should avoid that forum. Unfortunately, that's true of some places, and you won't know until it's too late. You can't win a dispute with the owner, because it's his house and his rules, and if you don't like it you can leave.

The good news is that the internet is full of forums, and only a small percentage of them are run by jerks. If you stumble over one, it's generally no great loss to just walk away and go somewhere else.

thats a sad thing. usually its good idea to read out the rules before participating the contests.

i had at least 10 contests in my forum over the last two years, we never had a problem with anybody.

i guess this is just an isolated incidence. your friend is better move on with new things.

thanks for your views friends :) and I guess my friend might have looked into this topic and got an idea how members can be

@CD : I think when his ip is banned, there is very little he could do to raise the issue back in the forum :p
@webcosmo : As far as my friend goes on to say, the only guidelines to the contest were min. post words and not to spam, there wasn't any other made for winners

my personal opinion is, I would like my friend to disclose the forum id, so that users can be beware of the forum in future and save a few from repeated such incidents. (I ran a forum until a few years back, we used to have quarterly contests and we really didn't ban any one if some winner drops out after the contest results. We didn't frame rule for a member to be regular as it was fair share. We got what we want and the winner got his)

I have asked my friend to digest this and move on though and asked him to take this as a lesson for future
