I am thinking of buying a Juniper Firewall for my dedicated servers. Does anyone have information about firewalls? What do you thing about this firewall?
Hmm, I've never heard of this model. I would look into what Cisco has to provide, and also watch for F5 Products. Are you looking for a firewall to operate in application level security or what exactly? IDS and WAF are intelligent proxies that operate the same as the firewall you mention, but if you can further describe why you need the firewall I can recommend you the best solution. PM me if you'd like.
Juniper is pretty well known, and I honestly think it would work fine. There was another brand too that a sales person was trying to get me to try, but I never did as I had my own setup, and I've forgotten the brand already.
my company which is a fortune 500 (i think within the top 100) uses juniper firewalls. i'm not in our network security department so i don't know anything about it but i do know we use 'em at this level and we're a big government contractor with strict data protection requirements.
Ok, and?????? How many servers do you have and what will they be used for? What will the firewall be used for? Will they be used for VPNs, port forwarding or just to stop inbound traffic? Do you have remote employees who need a VPN tunnel? Will the employees be using VPN tunneling software? If so, what software? Will data need to to be transferred between different offices to the servers at your office? If so, what kind of data? Is the data under the HIPAA guidelines? Does the data need to be encrypted? Is this going to be for a central office were you have servers and employees? Is this a web hosting company, doctors office, lawyers office, or hospital? How much traffic do you get every month? How much as your traffic grown over the last 4 or 6 months? How much growth do you expect in the next few months? What is your budget? Not enough information was given in your question for a real answer. Please provide as much information as possible in your question. As far as anyone here knows this is for your DSL connection at your house. Or you could have an OC-3 with dozens of servers at a data center. There is a big difference between the two.
