Okay, I am very embarassed to admit, having an education background in U.S. History and seeing "Juneteenth" on my calendar today had me puzzled.

If you're curious too, check out Juneteenth Worldwide Celebration.

African-Americans would truly know that today is Juneteenth.

    And the significance of today.

You obviously have no Texas roots. Juneteenth is highly celebrated here. Just read yesterday's paper about the Juneteenth Celebration.

The celebration honors the day slaves in Texas learned of their freedom after the Civil War. JUNETEENTH. On June 19 ("Juneteenth"), 1865, Union general Gordon Grangerqv read the Emancipation Proclamation in Galveston, thus belatedly bringing about the freeing of 250,000 slaves in Texas.

Not the slaves of the confederacy (THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN!).
    But the slaves in Texas.

Yeah, go to Houston, Dallas, etc in the Lone Star State and today you will see lots of parades, celebrations, etc.

Tis a great day to always remember and commemorate.
