Hey all - As always, I wanted to start a thread to discuss my freelance writing income. In June, I broke $10k for the first time in 2008. To see the entire post, visit: http://www.chrisblogging.com/freelance-writing-income-june-2008/ As you may have noticed on my blog, I recently started a freelance writing course. My goal is to teach others how to earn a full-time living through writing. If interested, you can check out the page at the top of my blog. Once again, if you have any questions please feel free to ask here, pm me, or send a quick email. Thanks again, and I hope everybody else had a great May!
Good job!! Congrats. Could you tell us your average per word rate, or even a range? Just to demonstrate that you cannot make this kind of money charging $.02/word.
great post I'm sure that this will motivate a lot of people! Congrats. I'm sure you can have a decent life with 120k/year
Consistency is laudable. But not easy. So any tips to attain consistency of writing quality and income ?
Why is your writing course $100 per month? Why couldnt you charge a flat fee? Some of us may run out of money before you teach us in depth marketing skills. Without the ability to get jobs, our writing skills are useless. At least that is what I have come to believe after a few months of this. I spent over $100 in advertising and didnt get a single client! Didnt know what to target I guess. I hope this doesnt hijack your thread. I jjust noticed an ad for your course.
In any business, you need to PUT money before getting money.i dont know where the idea of something for nothing came about.I make 25-30k per month online but in my first month of business(2 years ago) i actually had to take part time work as a security guard to fund the money i needed to get my online business started. How bad do you want to succeed???
I totally agree with you. First, sorry for the bad attitude in the previous post. I am just a little frustrated. I understand putting money up before making money. I really want to take the course and have the 1st month's payment. I was just wondering how long it would be before I tarted to see a return. When I started making money on the internet I had no money. I went to google and found a lot of gov. auction and dropship sites, made a list and an ebay sales page, and started making money. I used that money to invest in video games, made some money, used that money to invest in some websites, sold those websites, used that money to buy better websites, and so on. Those steps took a couple of years, but I was willing to get the money to invest in my business. I stumbled upon freelance writing in January. That month I made about $200. It took alot of writing to get there since I was writing for $.01 per word or less. Because of that, I got burned out in March. Again, sorry for the hijack. This is my last post on the subject.
Thanks for all the kind words! My main goal is to inspire to others to chase their make money online and freelance writing goals. shkad14 - to answer your question, I set a per month price to make it more affordable, actually. This way, members can stay on board as long as they want and pay on a month to month basis. dakingofkings makes some good points. You often time have to spend before you can begin to earn...
shkad14 - People in situations like Chris' could actually charge quite a bit more. As a matter of fact, if he wanted to do one-on-one consultations, he could probably do quite well charging that much per hour; not per month. It's an incredible value there that any new writers serious about "making it" should consider.
Wow Chris, that's awesome! Will you be my personal Yoda? I can't afford $100 per month but I can...um...make you cookies...or something
Nice one, I am still in the process of trying to get to $2000 a month from writing. Do you mind telling us how much you charge on an average basis? Thanks
How many months would you give to become a good writer from being an average one, without having to relearn Grammar I am not looking at becoming a free-lance writer. I just need the skills to copy write the tons of articles I get written by free lance writers.. And to write a good personal blog (Not an earning money kind, but for my ego). btw, it looks like your thread attracts some good writer.. Will bookmark for future reference.
Not sure if I'm eligible to answer this question but I believe it depends on the individual, some learn faster than others and some will already have more experience and skills than others. Being born and bred in the UK I've had a good head start as I've always been around this language so it's natural for me to write the best I can, saying this there are native english people that won't be able to write fluent, perfect english which is why they would benefit from someone who can, to teach them. I believe in a few months you would be able to pick up a great deal of experience, in my opinion I think the best experience is to write. Since I started about a year ago I've improved a great deal, I use words in my articles that I didn't even knew existed and that's from simply reading and writing. In the early days (and in the present) I ask if there is anything the client believed they can improve on to get the best result and hopefully repeat custom.
Thanks for all the comments. As far as how much I charge, there is no easy way to answer this question. Every project and every client is different. I suggest that every writer comes up with their own rates, and then works from those as they move forward...
