Jumpy Rankings on Google

    Hi,

I've seen a thing on Google the last couple of days that I have never experienced before. Therefore I hope that some of you could help me explain what's going on?

This is not to talk about my own website, but I need to explain a bit about the situation, I believe.

About two weeks ago I made a new website with some original content on a brand new domain. I got it indexed and started throwing some links at my site. Those links were from a couple of other sites I've got, from Text-Link-Ads and from bookmarking sites.

Anyways what happened was that after a couple of days I was ranking for a fairly non-competitive term. I went from ranking on page 16 (after being indexed) to being rank 9, on page 1. This only lasted one day though, and I suddenly got pushed back to page 11.

Now my question is: what causes the rankings to be so jumpy? Do the rankings jump because of sudden devaluation of links? Because of lack of domain age?

Its called Google Dance. Same thing happened to my new site as well. It came upto position 26th. for very high competitive keyword for one day and now its not there in top 500. Just wait for the next update and you will be ranking for your keywords.

So what you are saing is that I probably will be ranking as I did for that single day, "permanently" after the next update?

No. It's a Google Boost. Sometimes Google gives a boost in ranking for new domains. Then once you get dropped, you have to actually work for your position ;).

Rankings on Google is never permanent. Goolge is dynamic more than any other search engines....so you need to work continue on your site for better rankings.

I know that. That is why I said "permanent". By "permanent" I meant that it will be more stable than now so it doesn't jump 10 pages from day to day.

There are two things - google dance, as mentioned above, and 'new site bonus' - you have about two weeks of boost your ranking, don't be surprised if new site, with good serp, will disappear suddenly. Anyway - I want to say, that there are some rules which make noise in the results, so it's not always easy to say what happens. Always - with time, you get know what is going on there.

I had about the same thing happen. I was consistantly on the first page probably for about a month or so and now I'm on page 3. :(
