Hey, I am a big fan of reading about SEO and the such. And something has always struck me as sort of odd. We all jump through hoops, trying to land that elusive top ten spot on Google. However, are we spending so much time on SEO that the production of content goes by the wayside? I read some good advice the other day--for the most part, focus on great, original content & pretend the engines don't exist. I expanded on that thought and came up with the following game plan to build traffic and earn a decent position in the engines: Create content that is engaging, useful, fun, etc. Do the normal on-page stuff: titles, tags, keyword--but don't spend too much time Build a few links, but don't go crazy. Really focus on building a relationship with your readers. By the way, the initial advice comes from a blogger who has almost 30,000 subscribers to their feed, so he knows what he speaks of. A number one in Google can mean a ton of cash--but in the end, I'd rather do the basics, and spend the rest of my time with my daughter & wife. =) Have a great weekend! brian
Nice point. Only one site can be number one and you can spend your life working on getting the number one spot and staying there or find a niche and make some money.
I agree with what you are saying... I do think there are a lot of people making a lot of money with absolute crap content just by "gaming" the system. But I also think you can have a lot of success doing things the "right" way and you'll probably end up with a lot more long term success as well. And less sleepless nights worrying about when you're going to get caught
Zib, I totlaly agree--the sleepless nights thing is for the birds. Google is absolutely amazing, but they piss me off as well. The biggest annoyance right now is the apparent penalty you get if you sell links. Excuse me? If I am cultivating an audience and then decide to sell advertising or links directly to a customer, how is that any of G's business? I wish people would remember something--Google didn't invent advertising, and if they keep exerting this type of control, they will ultimately alienate a lot of folks. Ok..that's my Google rant for right now, lol! Cheers, bri
