Yea, he is FOR stem cell research, but AGAINST federal funding of it, along with being against federal funding of 1,000 other things. He's against abortion personally, but also against federal government getting involved FOR or AGAINST abortion, believing its a state right.
It would be pretty hard to be for stem cell research and for federal funding of it at the same time. Not too many examples of government getting involved in something and not destroying it
Thanks for clearing that up... All I knew is that he wasn't a supporter of abortion/stem cell research... Knowing that makes me like the guy more...
What state are you in? Paul's stances (already covered) are that people should have choices. Not federal government mandated choices. If a state outlaws stem cell research, pursue research in a state that supports it. If a state outlaws abortion, move to a state that supports it. Or better yet, follow the plan of the founders for people to actually get involved in their local and state government politics to bring about the changes and laws you want applicable to you! Outsourcing the political, moral, economic and humanitarian issues to Washington is lazy and is why our politicians have been able to mess everything up. We're just not as active and informed as we should be in the greatest and freest country in the history of mankind.
Sunny Florida Sounds good to me! It's amazing more republicans don't love this guy, he seems to be a true old-school conservative..
Except: He's really seriously dangerously confused on national defense issues He's really seriously bizarrely confused on some economic issues He often comes off as a conspiracy kook, which is not the kind of person you want in any position of responsibility Other than that, he seems like a very nice old man.
Why? Because he thinks we shouldn't engage in preemtive war? The other day I saw a clip of him discussing monetary theory, and the rest of the candidates looked like deers in headlights... Because a person can think outside the box, means they're not right for public office?
Because he completely fails to understand that the nature of warfare has changed since he was young. I'm not saying that Grandpa Paul doesn't know a lot of nice words. I am saying that be believes a lot of things which aren't true. Yes, he has been studying -- but not the science of economics as taught by professional economists. He's been studying the weird stuff that fills my email box no matter how many addresses I add to my Junk filter. I would not ever equate kooky conspiracy theories with out-of-the-box thinking. Yes, maybe the Rothschilds really are reptile satanists hell-bent on the destruction of the world, but that's still not out-of-the-box thinking. That's I've-been-reading-Will's-spam-mail thinking.
Hmm, that's a relatively early primary. Is it an open primary or are you already a registered Republican? The problem has been getting the word out. It's amazing how many people like his views and positions, once they actually find out who he is and that he is running for President. In a way, it's made activism easier, but on the other hand, the MSM hasn't been much help until recently when he reported that the campaign has more money than McCain's. But they always qualify it with talks about being Libertarian not Republican (they are not mutually exclusive) and that he might be a 3rd party candidate. If you have any other questions or anything about Paul, post it or PM me and I will try to help find answers. This campaign is not about being vague or BS. It's about speaking truth to power.
I'm intrigued, please enlighten us, what does Dr Ron Paul "fail to understand" about the nature of warfare? So monetary theory doesn't apply to economics? Because that's how he dazzled the crowd on the clip... Please post some links to the "kooky conspiracy theories" that he's concocted...
Registered GOPer... Hmm... He seems to be slowly gaining ground, and the primaries are right around the corner... I'm hoping he has something big planned with the $5 mil... Yeah, I've got a question, where do all these "Ron Paul" yard signs come from? Are they supporters going around putting them up, or is it part of the campaign fund? Those things are popping up everywhere
I don't believe that. Paul served in the Air Force. He's one of the best friends veterans in America have. The Iraq war is no different than the Vietnam war. Started under a false premise, lasted long after public support was over for it, and no clear avenue for victory in sight. I think you might be surprised to know some of the people Paul works with. A lot of people with expertise in the middle east and terrorism. Not the capitol hill BS brigade of neo-colonialism. Actually, Ron Paul has been endorsed by Nobel Prize winning Economist Milton Friedman. He's one of the most respected members of the Mises Institute, a group that studies the Austrian school of Economics. He's also written books on Foreign Policy and Economics (6 IIRC) and frequently gives guest lectures. He's the first Presidential candidate I can think of in some time who actually has philosophical underpinnings for his positions. If you think the theories behind why the Central Banks are an issue are kooky, then you are saying that Madison, Jefferson, JFK, Goldwater, Reagan and Lincoln were kooks. Is that what you are saying?
You and me both. Polls are useless to those that do not agree with them... If the polls supports your position, it must be accurate.. If it does not, it must be flawed.. Not directed at you, just my opinion of the opinion of those who have opinions about opinion polls. If that makes sense. Same here.. By split, the state is predominantly Republican (the birth place of the party no less), but our population is concentrated in Milwaukee and Milwaukee County, and that is where the bulk of the misinformed voters come from.. That and the ones that vote for a candidate based on who bought them cigs or underwear. Interesting.. I've not seen any signs for anyone yet... Though myself, I've not truly made up my mind yet... Maybe Paul was the first one to make signs... True... But like a football game, there is a lot of time left in this game, and only time will tell for all involved.. The tide can shift a lot in a year... Why on earth do that start all this campaigning so early? Nothing seems to get done in the US for 2 years because a good majority of those running are campaigning when they should be concentrating on their current job... ie., Hillary and Obama.
That's less of a post and more of a book. I really should add that to my ToDo list, but the enormity of explaining how the world has changed is so large that I am seriously hoping that someone else will write it. Barnett described some of it in The Pentagon's New Map. That's as good a place as any to start. I'm not sure how you would get that out of anything I wrote. http://www.google.com <- I'm sure that someone out there is way ahead of me on this. It would be an interesting project. Not really centered on Paul, of course -- but to tackle a wide range of the oddball conspiracy theories out there. Most, of course, cannot be argued. I cannot prove that the Rothschild's aren't reptiles. But, it would be useful perhaps to writeup something better about say, myths concerning the Federal Reserve or the Gold Standard. I was looking at these yesterday, and they are pretty thin: http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/Embassy/1154/flaherty.html http://www.politicalhobbyist.com/debunked/ http://www.nowpublic.com/debunking_gold_standard_myth_legality I just have to convince myself that this is worth the 120 or so hours it would take to do well.
Will, the reason people come up with odd ball conspiracy theories is because it is much easier to make a whacky claim than it is to disprove it. My theory on conspiracy theorists.... they are lazy. 120 hours to debunk 5 minutes to spread bunk
Friedman endorsed him as a Congressman. I would too. I very much like Grandpa Paul's work in the House of Representatives. Am I out of touch? Has Friedman endorsed him for the Presidency? I am saying, very clearly, that those gentlemen has been misrepresented in the kook-press.
Good. Some states brought in restrictive registration change rules on short notice for the primaries. He's just began a radio campaign in several early primaries. I believe, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Iowa and a couple other states. They spent over $450k IIRC and the ads are playing very frequently. I'm not exactly sure what else they plan to do but I will update here when I know. Paul did say on MSNBC last week that they plan to use the money exactly as the donators intended it. To win the campaign. I first found out about RP because he was the "internet" candidate. Unofficially, his campaign has taken off through MeetUp.com. There are over 900 MeetUp groups, I'm guessing several in your state. These groups, working independently of the campaign get together to put up signs, rally, canvass by foot and by phone, fund raise etc. Their activities are not co-ordinated by HQ, they operate all on their own. I'm assuming that if you are seeing a "lot" of signs, that is the grassroots at work. In New Hampshire, they have been running their own newspaper ads. One group does the Nascar events, getting planes to fly banners over the track while they canvass the parking lot. Other groups arrange marches, setup booths at gun shows and fairs, you name it. Paul has said numerous times that when the campaign raises $5 million, the grassroots are probably providing $10 million in free promotion. It has become organized, but mostly at the local level in these MeetUp Groups, which for the most part, occur spontaneously. You can see some examples of grassroots campaigning here, http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ron+paul+sign+making&search=Search http://www.youtube.com/results?sear...&search_category=0&search=Search&v=&uploaded=
Friedman died in 2006 IIRC. This was his endorsement, "We very badly need to have more Representatives in the House who understand in a principled way the importance of property rights and religious freedom for the preservation and extension of human freedom in general ...l wish you every success." Misrepresented? Lol. I suppose JFK just shut down the Federal Reserve prior to being assassinated for fun?
I've already posted but maybe you missed it. Kerry was polling below Al Sharpton in New Hampshire prior to the Primary. Clinton was polling at the same numbers as Paul. We know how those turned out. The polls are not indicative of anything tangible come election day. Some interesting facts have come out about these polls recently. For example, 2nd and 3rd tier candidates on automated polls are frequently put under a sub menu category of other. The "front runners" are the names given first in the phone call, and if the respondent doesn't choose other, those 2nd and 3rd tier candidates may not be heard at all. On live phone polls, candidates like Paul are not even mentioned, the 1% they garner is from "write in" type responses. Next, the polls are typically of "likely Republican voters". Paul has a lot of Libertarian support, old school Republican support that may have voted Perot, Buchanan or not at all recently, as well as Democrats. Recent polls in New Hampshire show Paul polling well with moderates and African Americans. But again, it's a poll, so we can discount that as well. The true poll measure are the fund raising. The FEC reports are much more telling and open in where the money comes from.
