Journalism vs Copy Writing?

    Hi everyone,

I had recently started a news related site and was looking to get some content writers, so of course I was browsing through everyone's services and profiles here on DP, etc. Things like "24-48 turnaround time" had me thinking that maybe I should go about hiring in a different way?
For my site, it would be current news for my niche that is posted and not necessarily articles written to drive SEO.

My question is: Where do I look to find someone who can write news for my niche that would be produced on-the-fly? I am looking for around 3 'articles' per day, but they all have to be relevant and current. Most people I had looked at were saying stuff like they or their company would write X-Amount of articles in 24-48 hours but that's not really what I'm trying to find. I need articles to be written steadily throughout the week, pertaining to that day's happenings.

Is there a better place than DP to find what I am looking for? Is such a 'freelance journalist' possible to find, or do freelance writers typically just do SEO driving articles?

Many companies are designed to produce 'bulk SEO' content, so much of the pricing you see will be in the X Articles in Y Timeframe. I would suggest emphasizing your interest in quality, research, and relevance in any job posting. You can also use/search the term 'freelance journalist' as you mentioned, or even try 'news writer'.

I do have a team that focuses on high quality, 100% uniquely researched content. If you provide a bit more information about what you need, we may be able to help you.
    You can PM me here.

Stuff like this is just a matter of scheduling and figuring out timing for payments. News, content, it makes no real difference; it's all research. Not sure what price range you're looking for, but I could do something like this for you, depending on the start date you need. I'm a little booked up for a couple of weeks, but after that would be fine. If you can be consistent, so can I. Shoot me a PM if you want to talk about it.

I'm thinking if you need someone to put out that much content on a daily basis you don't want a freelancer because that's just not how they work. True journalism could possibly give you one quality article a day and that's it. If you just want content that's a different story because now you want a curator instead of either a reporter or a true freelance journalist.

In either case you might try popping it on Craigslist, other freelance journal sites or blogs and places such as Problogger, which has an area where one can advertise for writers. Thing is, you didn't say what kind of news you're looking for, so if it's more local then you'll have to get someone from the area, and if it's worldwide then you're not really going to get what you're hoping for in such a short time.

If you are looking for news reporting you definitely want someone with a journalism background, not a copywriter/SEO person. While both forms of writing are meant to provide readers with information, copywriting is meant to promote/sell something. Journalism tells a story.

A freelancer could easily provide you with 3 quality articles a day provided they aren't too long or research intensive. Just be sure you have the funds to pay a decent wage. You won't get quality articles for $1 a piece. :) I have a degree in Journalism and experience writing news stories, so feel free to PM me if I can assist further.
