So... have you actually tried uncommenting either of the two sections as per the instructions in the file?

If so, what were the problems exactly?

and this was the .htaccess file which i pasted
is Mambo easier than Joomla? i think i may go for that

can anyone please help me to fix this?

I'm not sure if you totally understood their answer. (If you did I apologize). Under where it says "3rd Party SEF section make it look like this.. Notice no #'s before each of these lines

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^(/component/option,com) [NC,OR]
    optional - see notes##
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} (/|\.htm|\.php|\.html|/[^.]*)$ [NC]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule (.*) index.php

Then, Make sure there ARE #'s before these same lines in the section which says "cor SEF section"

Depending on your server, this can be VERY hard.
You also need to put a # before the line that says "Options FollowSymLinks
    "

3rd.... If your Joomla is in a directory other than the root i.e. if it is in a directory called Joomla look for the line that says # RewriteBase / Take away the # and then change the line to RewriteBase/Joomla or whatever directory you installed it in.

If this answer doesn't help you, I hope it helps someone in the future

factchecker is correct: it's most likely the fact that you need to comment out the "Options FollowSymLinks" line.

But please, ESPECIALLY when it comes to things like this, "it didn't work" doesn't help. Is it that the site still works, but the SEF stuff isn't, or that the entire server is now just returning errors?
