I've been trying to figure out how to get this software into my site for awhile now, but any instructions i read make no sense. There are some "easy to follow" ones i've read but they never really specify certain things. I know nearly nothing with this programming sh!t so that might be why. So i download it into a .zip file. Then I unpack it and FTP it into my site? or do i ftp it then unpack it? and if i unpack it first do i ftp all individual 20 some files? and when i finally get it in the site then what? reps to any help
- Download the ZIP file first - UnPack all Files - Make some changes in configuration file as per instruction given - Upload all files to you site via FTP. - Your site is ready now.. Enjoy surfing
I unpacked it first, then uploaded all the files and folders it gives you into the public_html folder. You should be seeing folders like Administrator and files like index.php if you do this correctly.
* Download the ZIP file first * unpack all Files * upload to your server * Open your web site via browser, you should see installation page * Write all information like sql username and pass * Delete "Install" Folder from your server And it's all
ok i unzipped it and got it into my site. but there is no installation page when i log on. i have to go to 'file manager' and then 'joomla installation' and apparently change all the permissions to 777? which i did for most of them but there's about a million of them in the subfolders' subfolders... and idk what's up with the "pre installation check page" stuff that has the files in green and red.. there is no pre installation check page for me
Have you tried looking around the Joomla forums for a better installation tutorial or manual? http://forum.joomla.org/ is for the forums and http://help.joomla.org/ is for help. It looks like the installation manual for 1.5 is first thing on the help page. But, if something is not coming up/working like it should during or right after installation, I would suggest doing a search on your issue. I have been able to resolve many a problem using the Joomla forums....
Are you sure, you have to change all the files to 777 ! I would suggest you patiently read their instruction manual, that will save you a lot of trouble later.
