I have heard that there are many issues with this particular CMS, serurity issues for example. I'm looking to use it for an online booking engine, could I possibly have some imput as to these cons?

    Thanks

um..it is really nicely set up I had used joomla on a couple of sites but when it came to design wise it didn't have that much flexibility other than that I liked it a lot!

I have never really had any security issues with my Joomla site. The drawbacks for me have always been SEO. There are a lot of people that will tell you it's really easy to optimize a joomla site for SEO, but I have yet to conquer it. Like right now, google is using some of the code in my template as the website description in the index, totally ignoring the meta description tags or content. Can't figure out what's wrong....

I didn't like it. Half the styles I tried weren't properly coded and I got confused really quickly :-p. I'm gonna stick with wordpress and custom HTML temps for CMS.

Joomla is amazing as a CMS - its really full featured, well put together, and there's a million plugins for it. My one gripe with it is that its a huge performance hog - my site couldn't handle more than 200 concurrent users on a low end dedicated server. They're completely rewriting the engine for Joomla 1.5 so this may improve.

I would generally recommend though to not use Joomla for anything who's primary function isn't actually as a CMS - a booking engine doesn't sound like it is?

joomla is way to complicated...until and unless we are aware of the coding it is bit difficult to handle...wordpress is for nerds like me:) who donot know any special kind of coding and yet dream of making websites:)

Thanks guys, i just wanted my boss to hear / read it for himself, he has ask a company to perform the task of creating an online booking engine and they said ''oh yeh fine no problem, it will cost you £XXXX, we use joomla and we can do anything with it'' i'm not doubting they can, but 1) i don't want him to PAY for joomla and 2)this is for full-time business use and my boss is adament that this is sufficient where as in my oppinion its not
this doesn't sound like what we're looking for, my boss is cheap...

    thanks alot guys

You're missin the point, my boss wants to pay someone to do a job i can do, there is another company that quoted us a slightly a higher price higher price and they will create a bespoke system, which means not havin to worry about someone breaking the code every few months or having to update and you get EXACTLY what you ask for.
