Hey all. I have only recently heard of Joomla and have seen someone with a Joomla website. I have strongly considered checking it out.

But I would like to know what you all think. Has anyone tried them both. Which one do you like better and why?

I use Wordpress and love the plugins they provide. But I have also heard of a few nice additions to Joomla although I have never tried it.

    Let me know. Thanks.

If you want to have fully loaded website with heavy duty application, go for Joomla. If you want to be more interactive with your visitors, go for Joomla also.

If you prefer simplicity and fast loaded website, WordPress is still the best.

Think about your needs first before you judge.

One of the thing i like about Joomla is the ability to create hierarchical sidebars. For example, in Joomla you can group related article into categories and subcategories. (see example below)

    Parent topic 1
    - child topic 1
    - child topic 2
    - grandchild topic 1
    Parent topic 2

In Wordpress, You cannot create hierarchical sidebars (not i am aware of). You can only create a few main pages. and a front page blog. Although in wordpress you can add tags to articles.

In my personal opinion, Joomla is good for information website - as you can group related articles into categories and subcategories. Wordpress is at a disadvantage in creating tutorial website but is good for Blog.

PS: If you want to make a simple tutorial website with sidebars, sitemap in Joomla you can check out http://makeyourownwebsite.im. This tutorial will brief you on how to customize the default joomla template - milky way.

Thanks for this info. I don't think I've ever heard of Hierarchical sidebars.
Do you have an example of a website that shows what you are talking about?
I am really interested in learning about Joomla. I may use it for my next site.

Oh, I will check out the links above. Thanks.

As for me, joomla is the best. It is universal thing, you can make it just you want
