You can create perfect SEO site using wordpress or joomla.

    But I think :
wordpress have more pros - lots of plugins, simple templates code,

if you are more expirienced in Joomja you have more powerfull CMS and more
opportunities but it little bit more complicated

of course its wordpress because of its ease of use!
just rewrite the URLs and you are on the way! As long as you have good content, just dont worry about SEO.

I'm a wordpress fan too. Plug-ins and easy of customization are unbeatable.

But just so to make the conversation more interesting have you thought about Drupal? http://drupal.org/

I haven't tried yet but heard great things about it. Maybe it is another option to look at...
Anyone has any experience with Drupal that could share???

Using the features that are built into the CMS - wordpress blows joomla out of the water. There is no real comparison between the two. In wordpress you just change one setting and you have instant search engine friendly short URLs.

Chmod the wordpress .htaccess file so its writeable.

In the wordpress control panel - settings - permalinks - Custom Structure radio button - /%postname%/ - save your settings.

Chmod .htaccess back to 755 - or what ever it was before you made the settings. And you have search engine friendly URLs without the need of installing any add-ons.

I agree with all the comments listed here.
I think you need to think about WHAT kind of site you are making, not just which is better for SEO, because they both have strengths for SEO.
I have both, I have a blog that I would only use wordpress for.
However I have larger sites that i sell products, they need to be much more flexible and have different abilities more or less beyond WP, therefore I have Joomla for those sites!

I am seeing a lot of people recommend Joomla, but I do not understand something. The last time I used joomla, I had to install an add-on to create search engine friendly URLs. Wordpress already has this option built in.

Even though a lot of people are recommending joomla, nobody is explaining "why" they recommend it.

I have recommended wordpress because it has built in SEO features with no need for extra add-ons. Keep in mind, the more add-ons you have, the more there is to break on the next update, and more doors for security exploits.
