Joomla vs. PHP and MySQL?

I want to learn more advanced techniques for web building (but mostly for working on my own sites).

...I am Presently teaching myself PHP and my SQL, but have come across the JOOMLA program and am wondering if i should drop learning PHP and MYSQL in lieu of learning JOOMLA.

I was hoping for some opinions and input from programmers out there.

Should i drop PHP/SQL and just go straight for Joomla?

...(your constructive input is greatly appreciated !)

Joomla is a CMS written in PHP. How can you compare it with the language it's written in ?

Mr.Sample...i am not comparing it....but rather trying to make a DECISION based on my needs.

Therefore...i am trying to make a DECISION on which Avenue to proceed on.

LEARN PHP and MYSql or...just learn Joomla?

    Thank you for your Question...!

It depends on your personality and gifts. If you are a person who likes attention to detail, by all means go into web programming. You asked for replies from "programmers". I am not a real programmer, but because others have called me one, I have answered. :)

I would tell you to continue to lean PHP/MySql for the web or for cloud-based computing. It seems to suit you.

I also would tell you that you do not have to choose between one or the other. If you want, learn them all.

    Good luck.

    ^^Thank you.

I am looking for more input on what Joomla can do as well as its limitations.
